Davis Kane - Community Center
The Town of Knightdale commissioned Davis Kane Architects, along with CLH Design, PA, for a Needs Assessment Study for a new Community Center. At the time, the community center was going to be at Wake Stone Athletic Park, so the Needs Assessment Study focused on this site. The project team worked collaboratively with the Town residents to understand the needs of this growing community and to propose three versions of the community center. The team worked with the Town to create a community engagement plan. It started with an online public survey that remained open to the public for almost 16 weeks. A series of community engagement sessions was completed along with stakeholder groups. After all the data was gathered and formulated, three design schemes were developed for the park at different construction cost levels.
Potential Funding Sources
Land and Water Conservation Fund
The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has historically been a primary funding source of the U.S. Department of the Interior for outdoor recreation development and land acquisition by local governments and state agencies. During each funding cycle, the LWCF staff will review the evaluations of each application submitted, consider the ranking of the projects, and recommend a list of projects to the state liaison officer for funding. The state liaison officer then recommends a list of projects to the National Park Service for final review and funding.
Parks and Recreation Trust Fund
The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) awards matching grants to local governments for parks, public beach access, and improvements in state parks. Applicants can request a maximum grant of $500,000 with each application and must match the grant dollar-for-dollar. The Parks and Recreation Authority, a citizen board, allocates PARTF funds to applicants. The program helps local governments reach their park goals to improve the quality of life in their communities.
